Join us on Friday, Nov. 28th for our BLACK FRIDAY SALE! We will be open from 9am-9pm and the earlier you get here, the better the deals! The details are on the flier below! See you there!

Y’all, if you haven’t heard, I am selling the store on July 14. You can read about it right here. Before I pass the torch to the next generation, though, I’m having one last throwdown in celebration. I’m bringing in some of my favorite comics professionals for a big signing on Saturday, July 12. There’ll be comics, food (catered by our longtime friends at Mediterranean Deli!), and fun, so please mark your calendars now for the

Ed Piskor will be back in the store to sign more copies of the best-selling HIP HOP FAMILY TREE! This is the beginning of the definitive history of hip hop in ANY MEDIUM, with more volumes to come! All fans of Hip Hop Culture owe it to themselves to read this work.

Jim Rugg will return to the store to sign the beautiful new hardcover printing of STREET ANGEL, as well as copies of his other masterworks, AFRODISIAC and SUPERMAG. Street Angel is about a homeless teenage girl on a skateboard who fights ninjas and conquistadors. Afrodisiac is an incredible Blaxploitation art book/comic. You gotta cop these if you don’t have them already.

Tom Scioli will be at Chapel Hill Comics for the first time to sign the brand new TRANSFORMERS VS GI JOE #1! Tom is also the artist of GODLAND and the creator of the super-psychedelic AMERICAN BARBARIAN! His work is old school and super-futuristic all at once, and we’re very excited to host him at the store! We will have copies of Godland Celestial Edition Volume 1 and 2, and Godland TPB #5 (Far Beyond the Big Bang) and #6 (Goodbye, Cosmic), which all together cover the complete series. He’ll also be bringing his minicomics Satan’s Soldier 1-4, and Final Frontier!

Chris Pitzer is the publisher of Adhouse books, which has consistently been the publisher of the best comics out there over the course of my ownership of Chapel Hill Comics. I love Pitzer and I love his books, so I’m thrilled he’s coming out. And I’ll be there too. If you want to come shake my hand before I hand the crown over to the new King of Chapel Hill Comics, come on by!

We’ll also have a special display of Jim Rugg’s art by super art collector Ben Huang, as well as the original cover art to Jim’s Walking Dead Ghost Variant, courtesy of me! It’s an art show too!

Please, please make plans to come out to get some incredible comics signed and to help me celebrate the twenty(!) years I’ve spent with the store and the eleven years I’ve spent as its owner. I’m thrilled and excited about the sale and about this signing; it should be a lot of fun!

Hey y’all,

I am pleased to make a very important announcement for Chapel Hill Comics and for me as an individual: I am selling the store. After eleven years as the owner of Chapel Hill Comics, I’m passing the torch!

The change of ownership will occur on Monday, July 14, so my last day as store owner will be Sunday, July 13. We’ll be having a big party on Saturday, July 12. Some of my favorite comic creators will be there – Jim Rugg (Street Angel, Afrodisiac), Ed Piskor (Hip Hop Family Tree), Tom Scioli (GI Joe vs Transformers, Godland), and Chris Pitzer (Publisher, Adhouse Books). Click Here for a link to the page for the event!

THIS SUMMER EVERYTHING CHANGESI’ve owned this store for eleven years and worked here for a total of twenty years! I love the comics medium and the store, but I am interested in doing something else now. Having said that, I wouldn’t have been willing to sell without knowing that the store will be in good hands.

The new owner’s name is Ryan Kulikowski. I’ll let him introduce himself on his own time, but I’ll say this: we’ve been discussing and negotiating the sale of the store for over a year, and I have learned that he’s enthusiastic and intelligent, not to mention far better researched than I was when I bought the store! I am confident that he will do a great job.

The best part about Chapel Hill Comics for me has been getting to know so many great people, and I hope to see lots of folks at the party on Saturday, July 12. For a few months, you may see me in the store in my capacity as a consultant to Ryan. After that, you may run into me when I’m in the store picking up my comics and graphic novels! I’m really looking forward to being a customer here!

Chapel Hill Comics is proud to announce that as part of our 10th/35th Anniversary Festivities, we will host Ed Piskor on Saturday, November 16, from 6pm until 9pm! Ed will sign his newest book, Hip Hop Family Tree volume one!

Ed’s not messing around with throwaway stuff here; he’s putting together a comprehensive history of hip hop in comic form. This first volume, which takes us through 1981, features not just the hip hop artists like Grandmaster Flash, The Sugar Hill Gang, and Kurtis Blow, but the people behind the scenes of hip hop, like Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin, and the other people they intersected with, like Debbie Harry, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Not only that, but he’s drawing and coloring the book in a style contemporary to the events within. It looks just like a Marvel Comics treasury from the seventies, down to the size. It’s gonna be big! We will also have copies of Ed’s Hacker comic masterwork Wizzywig! Please check out some of the art and videos below, and then mark your calendar: November 16 is the date, and Chapel Hill Comics is the place.
