We’ve got all types of things going on this October, and next up on the list is our GRAND OPENING PARTY!

Folks, go ahead and mark your calendars: Saturday, October 25 is our grand opening party!  We moved into our new location and have been too busy working on our office and event room to relax, but we’re ready for a party now.

The party will begin at 6pm and go until 9pm (or later, if that’s what it takes).  Halloween Costumes are encouraged but not required. We’ll have all kinds of stuff going on:

• Live entertainment!  We’re finalizing this as we speak, and it should be a lot of fun!

Chapel Hill Comics Doubles Size, Adds Inventory and Events

CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA (August 13, 2008) - Chapel Hill Comics, one of downtown Chapel Hill’s oldest businesses, is moving to a bigger and better location!  They’re moving just seven doors down the street to 316 West Franklin Street, between Ham’s and Hill Country Woodworks.  In addition to more display space for books and comics, the shop will feature reading groups, cartooning classes, and kids’ birthday parties.

After the store closes at 9:00 pm on Saturday, August 23, it will remain closed for three days and will reopen at the new location, 316 West Franklin Street, at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 27.  A reopening party will occur in September.

“In the three and a half years since we moved from Rosemary Street to West Franklin Street, we’ve expanded our business significantly, so we were ecstatic about the opportunity to move into a larger location in the same general area,” said owner Andrew Neal.  “In addition to being able to carry more books and graphic novels, this bigger space is going to allow us to host many more events.  We’ve had lots of success with our signings, parties, and our annual Kids’ Art Show, so we’re very excited to be able to expand in this way!”

The new location will have more than twice as much space overall, which will include areas for signings, reading groups, cartooning classes, and birthday parties, as well as a stage for performance events.  Information on events will be available at the store’s web page, chapelhillcomics.com, as well as in-store and via the Chapel Hill Comics email newsletter.

Chapel Hill Comics has been voted Best Comic Book Store in the Triangle by Independent readers in 2007 and 2008, and was a finalist in 2008 for the Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award, an international award which honors the best comic shops in the world.

Hey, Folks!

Saturday, August 23 will be our last day of business at the current location.  We will be closed for three days and reopen at our new location on Wednesday, August 27!

The new location is just seven doors down at 316 W Franklin Street, right next to Ham’s, in the former location of Paint the Earth. We’ll still be carrying the wide variety of comics, books, and graphic novels we’ve always carried, and the larger space will give us the ability to widen that range even further!

In addition to the newly expanded sales floor, we’ll be able to host a much wider variety of events at the store, from signings to concerts, to reading groups, to cartooning classes and birthday parties! We’ll have more information on different types of events and gatherings for you soon.

In conclusion: New store! Open August 27! Still open in the old store until August 23! Yay!

We’ve been deluged with questions from people who want to help with the move, so here’s the official call for volunteers!

We’re currently in the new space getting it ready, and will move into the space in late August. If you’d like to help with the move, please do the following:

• Send Vanessa an email at vanessa@chapelhillcomics.com .
• Include the word “volunteer” in the subject line.In the email, tell us whether you’d like to help with painting, or packing and moving, or both.
• Vanessa will get back to you and let you know when we need help with those projects, and hopefully you’ll be available when we can use you!

A lot of folks want to help, and believe me, we’ll use everyone we can, but we may wind up with more volunteers than we can fit, so please understand if we can’t fit you in.

Those of you who made it in for Free Comic Book Day received notice that Chapel Hill Comics will be moving down the street this August! Here’s the news for the rest of you!

Chapel Hill Comics is moving! Sometime in August, we’ll be moving seven storefronts down, on the same side of the street, to a place that’s twice as large. The new address is 316 West Franklin Street. In our three years at 412 West Franklin, business has grown to the point where we’re really starting to need more space, so we’re very happy to have the opportunity.

If you’re not already signed up for our email newsletter, please sign up in the right-hand sidebar so that you will receive updates about the move, and move-related events! We were so busy working on finalizing the new lease that we forgot about the store’s fifth anniversary under this ownership, so we’ll work a fifth-anniversary party into the summer somewhere too! Keep your eyes peeled.
