Chapel Hill Comics is proud to present one of the fine comics created at our third annual 24 Hour Comic Day event on October 18, 2008!
Doctor Rational and Muldoon the Mystic in… FIGHT SCENE
by Eric Knisley
Eric completed the 24 pages of his comic in under 20 hours. For those of you who are interested in the technique of a 24 Hour Cartoonist, he pencilled all the pages first, then went back and inked them. The result was impressive, to say the least! Astute readers may notice that there are only 23 image files, but that’s because pages 12 and 13 are a double page spread! Enjoy!

This past Saturday was 24 Hour Comics Day and we had a lot of fun here at Chapel Hill Comic! We had 19 different participants with 9 successfully completing the challenge, which is to write and draw a 24-page comic in 24 hours! Here are some images from the event!

Saul and Eric getting down to business.

Kevin and Max hard at work!

Saul, Eric, Kevin

Big Boss Neal talking to a reporter from 1360 WCHL. That’s what I do when I talk to a reporter? Really? Look at my foot!

Zack, Wayne, Michael, Drew working it out.

Amelia and Gracie plotting their next moves.

Can someone please tell me the next time I’m speaking to another human not to do this?

Media darling Saul Zimet speaks to Eric Martin of WCHL. Click here to listen to Saul and me on the radio!

I think this one was from around 4am. Left to right: Keith’s foot, Eric, Saul, Henry, Ben, Max, Harry, Isaac!

The lovely and talented Vanessa reads a comic by Saul!

This is the part where Eric drew so fast you couldn’t see his hand. That’s how you do a 24 Hour Comic, folks!

This is the part where I irritated everyone by taking pictures!

This is the part where no one has gone off the deep end yet.

This would appear to be the part about the house.

And here’s where Keith tries desperately not to watch Eric dance. It’s hard to pull your eyes away from the sheer majesty of it, but Keith somehow managed.

Saul is trying to draw a straight line, but the fisheye lens is screwing everything up. Photo by Eric Knisley!

Thalia , probably talking about some old movie or something. Photo by Eric Knisley.
And here are a few panels from my comic, Waffles and Strudels in Thanks for the Dismemberies. I only did 14 pages, but they were spectacular, let me tell you. We’ll post full comics from several of the participants later this week, so stay tuned!

This is my comic for 24 Hour Comic Day in 2008. I technically failed the challenge, since I only finished 14 pages, but I was happy with the results, especially since I had been on shift in the store until 7pm and could start until 10 hours after everyone else.

Hey, folks!
24 Hour Comics Day is tomorrow! Our event room will be full of folks drawing their hearts out for up to 24 hours straight!
The goal of 24 Hour Comics, in case you’re not familiar, is for each individual to create a 24-page comic over the course of 24 hours. You can use the time however you want, but the clock doesn’t stop ticking if you take a break!
If you want to see how the event goes, feel free to stop by and talk to the participants.
If you want to participate and haven’t filled out a form in-store or emailed me about the event, we can wait-list you, but unless someone cancels at the last minute, all our slots are full.
If you are participating, we’ll have food, but if you have specific dietary or caffeination needs, feel free to bring your own snacks and meals. You may also want to bring along a pillow and sleeping bag if you need to curl up for a few hours.
It’s going to be a lot of fun, so come on down and see the creative process at work! The artists will start at 10:30 AM and work through the night!

24-Hour Comics Day is almost here! This year it starts on Saturday, October 18! Chapel Hill Comics is proud to be a 24-Hour Comics Day Host for the third year in a row!
Just in case you’re unfamiliar, 24 Hour Comics Day is an event at which folks attempt to create a 24-page comic book in a 24-hour period. Those are the basic rules; if you’re interested in more specific information, click here to read the rules at Scott McCloud’s website!
If you want to participate, give us a call or come by the store to sign up, and if you want to swing by the store to watch people create comics, we’ll be open Saturday, October, 18, from 10am until midnight. We’ll lock up at midnight, but the creators will continue working in the store all through the night!
If you want to participate: please let us know as soon as possible. If you’re under 18, we’ll need a signature and contact information from a parent! If you have a participation slip out now, please get it back to us soon so we don’t give away your spot! While we have more space at our new location, we do not have an unlimited amount of spaces, and we have a lot of interest this year, so please get in touch with us early. If you have emailed about the event, you will receive a response soon.
