So I guess I’ll start off the listing with some of the titles which didn’t make the list last week because we got them in from other sources, then we’ll get to the upcoming stuff!
BABYMOUSE VOLUME 6: CAMP BABYMOUSE $5.99

Now I haven’t read this one, but I can tell you that young girls love the Babymouse books. They’re created by the sister and brother team of Jennifer and Matthew Holm, and next to Fashion Kitty (there’s a second volume coming this year!) and Bone (which everyone loves), these are our most popular comics with young girls right now.

THE BOY WHO MADE SILENCE #1 $5.95

This is a really nice looking comic, which received the Xeric Grant in 2006. If you’re a fan of the art of Kent Williams, Ashley Wood, or Bill Sienkiewicz, you should check this out!

STRONGEST MAN IN THE WORLD: LOUIS CYR $17.95

This is a nonfiction for kids (or adults; I liked it too!) about the strongest man in the world! He owned his own circus and died almost a hundred years ago, but still holds many strength records to this day. This has really nicely painted art by Nicolas Debon.

This is the first book from DC’s new Minx line of graphic novels aimed at teenage girls. This one is by young adult novelist Cecil Castellucci and drawn by Jim Rugg, who illustrated Street Angel, one of the finest comics of the last ten years. Chapel Hill Comics, the triangle’s oldest comic book and graphic novel store, is proud to announce Giants and Dragons, an art show which highlights the art of 11-year old artistic sensation Tristan Mead.  Mead has exhibited his art twice before in Chapel Hill Comics as part of our annual Kids’ Art Show.

Tristan’s art is colorful, detailed, and large, and features giants, dragons, and other mythological creatures.  We were so impressed with his art and with the response it got from our customers that we asked Tristan if he’d like to do a solo show!

Giants and Dragons: the Art of Tristan Mead will open Friday, May 11, 2007, with a reception from 6pm until 9pm at which you can meet the artist.  We’ll provide snacks as well.  The exhibit will be up until June 8, 2007.

Hey, everyone!

Free Comic Book Day was this past Saturday, and as usual, it was a big success for us!  We had over a thousand people come through the store to pick up free stuff, and gave away thousands of comic books!

We still have copies of the following all-ages titles for those of you who may have missed out on the day itself:

Sonic the Hedgehog

Just ask for them at the counter, and as long as we have them in stock, we’ll be happy to give you copies!

The latest volume in the quarterly fiction anthology.  I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but I popped it open and saw that the first story is by Wells Tower, the son of my high school Latin teacher!  He was in a band called Hellbender with a dude named Al Burian, who created the comic Things Are Meaning Less, which you can find in our nonfiction section!  A Hellbender is a type of salamander!  Wow, the connections!  So, McSweeney’s… yeah.
