2 New Neil Gaiman Books!

We received two new Neil Gaiman books, Interworld, and M is for Magic! These are young adult books, so I’m excited about taking them home and checking them out, since I liked Coraline quite a bit.

It looks like M is for Magic is a collection of short stories, and Interworld is a novel.

I know I had most of you at “Neil Gaiman,” though, so I’ll be quiet now!

Great Manga!

We received the latest volumes of To Terra and Naoki Urasawa’s Monster, as well as the final softcover volume of Osamu Tezuka’s Buddha! Monster is my favorite manga right now; in fact, I voted for it in the “Best Continuing Series” category of the Eisner Awards! It’s a thriller about a surgeon who saves a little boy’s life and then learns that the boy grows up to be a serial killer. Very exciting!

Buddha is fantastic as well. If you didn’t pick these up in hardcover, they’re all done now in paperback. This is the story of the life of the Buddha, as told by the granddaddy of manga!

Seeing Beyond Sight: Photography by Blind Teenagers

You probably don’t know that store manager Vanessa was a house parent at the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raeigh for several years. As we were driving home yesterday, we heard a story on NPR about a book of photographs taken by the kids at the school when she was working there!

We ordered a copy of the book because we wanted to see the pictures by people that Vanessa worked with, and were really impressed with the book, so we’ve ordered it for the store, too. You can learn more about it here.

Secret Mission Uglydolls!

We’ve had the Secret Mission Icebat for a month or two, but now we have lots of other Uglydolls in black as well. Check it out:

Magnets, Nightlights, and Japanese Snacks!

We got a slew of Japanese snacks in, including several we’ve never had before: new flavors of Pucca and Koala no March, as well as a restock on most of the Gummies we carry!

Not only that, but we received a large amount of magnets, as well as Lenore and Batman nightlights!

Death Note volume 12!

I believe there’s one more volume due to come out later, which will be a sourcebook, but this is the final volume of story in the Death Note series.

Death Note is our best selling manga right now; it’s about a kid who finds a notebook in which, if you right someone’s name, they will die. It has great art, very compelling storytelling, and some of the craziest convoluted logic you’ve ever seen!

Apollo’s Song!

Here we have more comics by Osamu Tezuka, creator of Astro Boy, Buddha, and Ode to Kirihito!

This is a science fiction love story which doesn’t look to be as out there as Ode to Kirihito, but I’m sure will be just as good! I’m looking forward to it. I hope Vertical keeps digging up unpublished Tezuka stuff for years!

Action! Intrigue! Crime! Cataloging! Is it the latest issue of Library Journal? Heck no, it’s Bookhunter, the awesome new graphic novel by artist and writer Jason Shiga. The story is set in 1973, although the forensic techniques would fit right in on an episode of CSI or Law & Order.
