An excellent comic written by a guy in a band! Which according to the kids is apparently “emo.” Let me tell you a little story. It’s 100% true. When I was a freshman at UNCG, I met a guy named Rob who told me he was in a band called Deus Ex. I asked him what type of music they played, and he told me “Emo.” I said, “You mean like Emo Phillips?” True story. At any rate, this comic is very good. If you’re a fan of Doom Patrol and Hellboy, you’ll like this!

Hey folks!

Last Saturday, October 20, was 24 Hour Comics Day, when people around the world stayed up 24 hours in a row working on 24-page comics!  At Chapel Hill Comics we had 13 participants who completed 10 24-page comics, and we’re showing off some of the work they did!

We currently have 2 full-length 24-Hour Comics as well as a 5-page preview of a comic which will be available for sale in our store, and we’ll post more 24-Hour Comics over the next few weeks!

We are proud to present a preview of a comic by 12 year-old Saul Zimet, which was created at Chapel Hill Comics during our 24 Hour Comics Day event on October 20, 2007!

We are only presenting the first four pages and the cover of the comic through agreement with Saul, because he is going to produce copies of the comic for sale at the shop. We’ll announce when they are available, but for now, let these pages whet your appetite! All images are copyright 2007 Saul Zimet.

Like I said before, there are several elusive artists who slipped out before we could photograph them with their comics, and I’ll see what I can do to remedy that. I’ll also be talking to the participants this week to offer to host their comics online if they’d like people to read them. I have already gotten some affirmatives, and Kevin’s comic is already hosted right here. Look for more later!

Astute readers will have noticed that our coverage of 24 Hour Comics Day ended abruptly about halfway through.  Never fear, though!  Intrepid workers Erin and Will took pictures throughout the night, and we’ll have photos, artwork scans, and more throughout the week!

We had 13 participants this year, and most of them completed a 24-page comic.  No one who completed their comic took the entire 24 Hours alloted; completion times ranged from around six hours to around twenty-two hours.  Everyone had a good time, from participants, to staff, to folks who saw our sandwich-board sign on the street proclaiming the event and came in to check it out!

Thanks again to all the participants!  Stick around, though, because more updates are on their way!

We now present in its entirety, Joe the Reluctant Swashbuckling Stick-Man, by 9-year old Kevin M. Collins! Kevin accidentally skipped page 21, but he did produce a cover, and may in fact produce another page from home. Either way, 23 + the cover is 24, so Kevin was the first person to finish the challenge this year! The comic is copyright 2007 Kevin M. Collins!
