October 18, 2008 was 24 Hour Comic Day. Artists gathered all over the world to attempt to create 24 pages of comics in 24 hours. Here are some of the results from Chapel Hill Comics. More will be forthcoming, just as soon as we have the time!
Fight Scene by Eric Knisley. A superhero parody by our pal Eric Knisley, co-creator of Mickey Death. It’s great!
Our Grand Opening Party was great, and for those of you who couldn’t make it, or for those of you who did make it and want relive it over and over again in your head, here are the pictures! We’ve split them up into two albums, and here’s a video of some of the fun as well! Links to the photos are below the video.
Welcome to Part Two of the photos from the Chapel Hill Comics Grand Opening and Halloween Party!

How did he do that?
Heather helps Shaun with a trick.
Magic Shaun takes time for a photo with the Brothers Neal. Astute observers will notice that by this point in the evening, the Beast has turned into a prince comic book man. Photo by Jacob Neal.
Meanwhile, our witch has transformed into a masked bandit. Here she is getting ready to steal Luke from an Obama yard sign! Photo by Jacob Neal.
The High Dollar Hot Dogs!
This was a great performance. They had lots of folks singing along with them on Folsom Prison Blues.
Here’s a view from further back!
And even further back! Preparations for the costume contest are underway. Photo by Eric Knisley.

During the kids’ costume contest, we listen to what Yotsuba has to say.
The contestants make their cases while I keep on truckin’. Photo by Selena Beckman-Harned.
This would be the party where I was momentarily deafened by the applause for Tiny Batman, the resounding winner of the costume contest! Second prize went to the Doctor, and third was a tie between the Klingon and Jango Fett. Photo by Selena Beckman-Harned.
One photo of Tiny Batman is never enough.
Man, Hillary is Creepy there, huh? You can’t see her outfit in this photo, unforunately, but Obama Yard Sign took the prize for best adult costume! Sub Zero and Scorpion placed second, and Harley and Ivy were third. Photo by Charlotte Walton.
Frankie, Amelia, and Keith, who all made off with good stuff in the Scream if you Want Free Stuff part of the evening.
Buddies!
Some late-night ghoulish arrivals receive their free Halloween Comics from my favorite pirate (formerly a bandit [formerly a witch]) (Anyone in costume who didn’t get Halloween Comics, just let us know!)
The Pagan Hellcats Take the stage for the last performance of the evening.
Dave the Mailman!
The crowd starts to head home. Bye, Ben! Photo by Jacob Neal.

There you have it, folks! I hope these photos convey some of the excellence of the party if you didn’t make it. Don’t cry if you couldn’t come, though, we’ve got more great events coming up in the future!Click Here to check out the first batch of photos!

Thanks for checking out the photos from our Grand Opening (and Halloween) Party! We had a great time! Photos were taken by Andrew Neal, Vanessa Neal, or Erin Spectacular for Chapel Hill Comics except where noted. Check it out:

A lovely witch greets folks as they enter, and Snake and Bacon (Stars of Tales Designed to Thrizzle) pose for a photo op!
The witch meets a young pupil from Hogwart’s.
Grapes and a, well, animal? Ma’am, could you turn around?
No, that doesn’t exactly clarify things. She’s definitely a mammal, though!
Chapel Hill Comics alumnus Matt talks it out with our pal JKD.
A Klingon and a grown man read comics. If Kirk had tried this, he wouldn’t have had nearly as much trouble out of those Klingons. Photo by Jacob Neal.
Thalia, Amelia, A dude who just popped into the picture from nowhere, and Erin!
Just to let you know: if you ever see Sub-Zero and Scorpion hanging out somewhere, get them to breakdance for you. It’s worth it.
Mister Babbit came dressed as your humble narrator, which was hilarious. We all knew who he was immediately. It was probably the intelligent look he affected, or maybe the rock hard abs.
And since there couldn’t be two Andrew Neals at the same party, this Andrew Neal put on his Beast suit. Photo by Charlotte Walton.
Here are the titles we are scheduled to receive on Wednesday, October 29, 2008! This includes comics, graphic novels, and other stuff from Diamond, our primary comic distributor, but does not include other comics, books, and other fine items which we receive throughout the week from other distributors, and direct from publishers.

Chapel Hill Comics is proud to present one of the fine comics created at our third annual 24 Hour Comic Day event on October 18, 2008!
Doctor Rational and Muldoon the Mystic in… FIGHT SCENE
by Eric Knisley
Eric completed the 24 pages of his comic in under 20 hours. For those of you who are interested in the technique of a 24 Hour Cartoonist, he pencilled all the pages first, then went back and inked them. The result was impressive, to say the least! Astute readers may notice that there are only 23 image files, but that’s because pages 12 and 13 are a double page spread! Enjoy!
This past Saturday was 24 Hour Comics Day and we had a lot of fun here at Chapel Hill Comic! We had 19 different participants with 9 successfully completing the challenge, which is to write and draw a 24-page comic in 24 hours! Here are some images from the event!
Saul and Eric getting down to business.
Kevin and Max hard at work!
Saul, Eric, Kevin
Big Boss Neal talking to a reporter from 1360 WCHL. That’s what I do when I talk to a reporter? Really? Look at my foot!
Zack, Wayne, Michael, Drew working it out.
Amelia and Gracie plotting their next moves.
Can someone please tell me the next time I’m speaking to another human not to do this?
Media darling Saul Zimet speaks to Eric Martin of WCHL. Click here to listen to Saul and me on the radio!
I think this one was from around 4am. Left to right: Keith’s foot, Eric, Saul, Henry, Ben, Max, Harry, Isaac!
Henry, Harry, Isaac, Max, Andy
The lovely and talented Vanessa reads a comic by Saul!
This is the part where Eric drew so fast you couldn’t see his hand. That’s how you do a 24 Hour Comic, folks!
This is the part where I irritated everyone by taking pictures!
This is the part where no one has gone off the deep end yet.
This would appear to be the part about the house.
And here’s where Keith tries desperately not to watch Eric dance. It’s hard to pull your eyes away from the sheer majesty of it, but Keith somehow managed.
Ben working on comics about bubbles or something. Photo by Eric Knisley.
Saul is trying to draw a straight line, but the fisheye lens is screwing everything up. Photo by Eric Knisley!
Henry! Photo by Eric Knisley.
Thalia , probably talking about some old movie or something. Photo by Eric Knisley.
And here are a few panels from my comic, Waffles and Strudels in Thanks for the Dismemberies. I only did 14 pages, but they were spectacular, let me tell you. We’ll post full comics from several of the participants later this week, so stay tuned!
Thanks,
Andrew Neal
