We’ve been giving away free Watchmen stuff for the last few weeks at Chapel Hill Comics, thanks to the kindness of Warner Brothers!  We’ve had buttons, stickers, posters, t-shirts, and DVD interviews with Watchmen director Zack Snyder.

This Friday, February 27, we’ll be getting one more visit from the Watchmen Street Team.  They’ll be arriving at the store around noon or 12:15pm to give out even more Watchmen stuff!  What will it be this time?  We don’t know, but it’s supposed to be the best assortment of stuff yet!

Who Watches the Watchmen?

More specifically, who watches the Watchmen at the local midnight opening?  It could be you!

Chapel Hill Comics has tickets available to the Midnight Opening of Watchmen at the Lumina Theater available for sale right now!  Tickets are $8.00, and we have a limited amount available, so come on down and snag yours today.

But this isn’t just any old Watchmen midnight premiere!  The first 25 people in line for the movie will receive free Watchmen buttons, and at 11:45 pm, we’ll be holding a trivia contest and awarding fantastic Watchmen-related prizes to the winners!  We’ll also be selling Watchmen-related stuff at the theater!

Come on down and get your tickets!  The Lumina’s a great theater with stadium seating, so it should be tons of fun!

An Evening with Mur Lafferty at Chapel Hill Comics

Chapel Hill Comics is very proud to present the following event:

Durham podcaster and author Mur Lafferty will discuss and sign copies of her book, Playing for Keeps, this Saturday, February 28, from 6pm until 9pm. This novel is a part satire, part homage look at superheroes from the point of view of the less heroically endowed. Winner of the 2008 Parsec Award for Best Fiction (long form). Come and meet the author - we’ll have snacks, drinks, and wine!

There’s something wonderfully Tick-like about Lafferty’s print debut, a gonzo imagination combined with a tight sense of plotting and good characterization. A quirky, funny page-turner that isn’t afraid to give superhero stories a deserved whomp upside the head.

Chapel Hill Comics is proud to announce a drawing for free tickets to one of this weekend’s finest entertainment opportunities.  MC CHRIS will be appearing at the Cat’s Cradle in lovely Carrboro, North Carolina, this Saturday, February 21, as part of the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival!

He’ll be appearing twice, the Saturday, February 21, 2009.  The first set at 8pm is a comedy set featuring Death by Roo Roo, The Beatbox, and MC CHRIS, and the second set at 11pm is an MC CHRIS show!  That’s two fantastic comedy shows.  What do you have to do to get these tickets?  Just come to the store and fill out a slip!  We’ll draw the names of two lucky folks, and each of them will receive passes for two to both shows!  These tickets go for $25 each, so that’s a $50 value for you if you win!

At 2 PM Saturday, February 14th (that’s Valentine’s day, to all you romantics out there) Chapel Hill’s very own rock & roll institution The Alcazar Hotel will be making a live appearance and performing a free & blistering set of music at CHAPEL HILL COMICS at 316 W. Franklin Street.

The Alcazar Hotel is a 3 piece, original Rock & Roll band based out of Chapel Hill, NC. Led by Will Dawson (formerly of The Squirrel Nut Zippers) on bass, it features Owen FitzGerald on guitar and Dustin Talley on drums.

The Alcazar Hotel will be performing their Morphine/MC5 inspired music to promote the upcoming release of their latest hit record, “Come ON! DIG The Unified Theory” at The Reservoir on February 26, 2009.
