Hey, folks!
Once I realized Chapel Hill Comics had been in our current location for a year now, I knew I needed to have a sale to celebrate, so we put all the 50-cent comics on sale at $50 a long box. Now that’s a spectacular deal, but not everybody out there needs a long box full of 50-cent comics, so here’s a sale for the folks who are more interested in graphic novels!
Starting when we open at 10am on Monday, August 31, our event room will be full of graphic novels on sale at frankly ludicrous prices! We’re calling it the 30-40-50 SALE! Why? because this is how it works:
Buy anything in the sale at 30% off!
Buy 5 or more sale items and get 40% off!
Buy 10 or more sale items and get 50% off!
Pretty great, huh? This way, if you just want one book, you’ll get a great deal, but if you want a big stack, you’ll do even better!
So what’s on sale? It’s a selection of items from throughout the store. Come to our event room and see! There are hundreds and hundreds of books available, so I can’t list them all.
It includes selections from all these store sections:
SUPERHEROES
MANGA
FICTION
NON-FICTION
ALL AGES
HUMOR
COMIC STRIPS
HORROR
FANTAGRAPHICS IGNATZ-FORMAT COMICS
As well as all of our Omnibus and Absolute editions! Wow!
How long will the sale run? I have to admit I do not know. That depends on how folks react to it. If we sell out the room in a couple of days, it’ll last a couple of days. If we sell out the room in a couple of weeks, it’ll last a couple of weeks. You should definitely come in soon to get first shot at these things, though!
Not only that, but we still have 50 cent comics, and they’re all still $50 a long box! Whoa!
Want to see some images of what will be on sale? Here you go:

Andrew Neal

Hey, folks!
It’s our one year anniversary at this location! That’s right, on August 27, 2008, we opened for business at 316 West Franklin after moving down the street. What are we doing to celebrate? Read on:
SUPER CHEAP COMICS
The 50 cent comics are now also $50 a long box! That’s right. You can probably cram like 350 of these comics into a long box, so that works out to less than fifteen cents a comic!
Not only that, but if you want to throw in some $2 graphic novels to fill up your box, go for it!
The sale will end once the comics are gone or once I have a chance to fill the room with other stuff, whichever comes first, but definitely through close of business Friday (unless they sell out)!
Come and get ‘em!
LOTS OF PHOTOS
Attentive readers (bless you!) of chapelhillcomics.com may have noticed that since our move last August I’ve been a little slack getting up event photos. Well, now I’m almost caught up! Check out the CHAPEL HILL COMICS OLD-TIMEY PHOTO PARADE!
That’s right, it took me a year, but I now have images on our website from such past events as:
MOVING THE STORE!
HALLOWEEN 2008!
KIDS’ ART SHOW!
SIGNINGS AND EVENTS!
and more!
Check out the website to see:

Thanks for the last year, everyone! Here’s looking forward to another one. Stay tuned, because soon we’ll be announcing an anniversary party!

Welcome to the Chapel Hill Comics Old Timey Picture Parade! Within these hallowed halls reside photos which should have been posted on our website over the course of the last year but for various legitimate reasons (i.e. naptime, Dracula, thinking about kittens) they were not. Apologies all around. We do believe that the onslaught of magnificence will make up for the tardiness, however, and we will make every attempt to avoid this nonsense in the future. Thank you very much. Just click on the titles to see photographs related to:

In June of 2009, we hosted Ursula Vernon for a signing of her new book, Dragonbreath, as well as one of her previous books, Nurk. Holy cow, Ursula has a big fan base, and folks drove in from far away to attend. I ordered an awful lot of books for this signing and wound up selling out to the last person who arrived 10 minutes before the end of the event, which means I have now ordered books for an event perfectly once! AWESOME.
Ursula has more books in the Dragonbreath series on the way, so expect to see more of her a Chapel Hill Comics!
Attention: These photos were not taken by the staff at Chapel Hill Comics. They were taken by guests of the event who were glad enought to send them our way, and I would like to credit them. If you know who took these pictures, please email with their information!

On to the next installment of the Old-Timey Picture Parade!
In May of 2009, we were lucky enough to host William Dawson (of The Alcazar Hotel) and Katherine Whalen (of Squirrel Nut Zippers and Katherine Whalen’s Jazz Squad) for a kids’ concert. The show was lots of fun. William made balloon animals for the kids before they started, and they folks singing along to the classics as well as original kids’ songs!

Free Comic Book Day falls on the first Saturday of May every year. This year was Chapel Hill Comics’ most highly attended Free Comic Book Day by about a hundred people. It was a remarkable success, even beyond the regular remarkable successes of Free Comic Book Day.
I didn’t get a ton of photos, as I had to put down my camera and work pretty quickly. Thanks to everyone who came out and picked up Free Comics, and especially to those folks who discovered the store on Free Comic Book Day and have come back since.

Here’s the next installment in our Old-Timey Picture Parade. In March of 2009, Ken Marcus made the trip to the store to promote his comic, Super Human Resources, which is about the HR department of a superhero-run company. The signing was a lot of fun, and we turned a lot of folks onto the series, which is very entertaining! Thanks for coming, Ken, and thanks for coming, folks who picked up a copy of Super Human Resources!

Here’s the next installment in our Old-Timey Photo Parade. In February of 2009, we were happy to host a signing with local author Mur Lafferty, for her book Playing for Keeps. What’s that you say? “That’s not a comic book, and you’re a comic book store?” Well, that’s true, but regardless of the medium, we like to support our local creators by partying down with them. Check it out! Here’s Mur’s website if you’re interested in learning more about her stuff: http://murverse.com/

Inauguration Day was also Snow Day in Chapel Hill! We were open for business, and despite the snow and the fact that everyone’s attention was on the TV or the computer or the Star Trek communicator or whatever you kids are using, we did a brisk business. What a pretty day!
