Halloween Weekend is upon us, and as we have done in the past, we’re offering free comics for anyone who shows up at the store in the costume this weekend!

It’s simple, here’s all you have to do:

1. Dress up for Halloween!

2. Wear your costume into Chapel Hill Comics on Friday, October 30, Saturday October 31 (*we will close early at 6pm*), or even Sunday, November 1 (assuming we still have free Halloween comics left; you might want to call).

3. Let us take your picture for our website!

4. Get Free Comics! These are comics printed and ordered specifically for Halloween. They include Popeye, Betty, Star Wars, Casper, and Little Lulu.

We hope to see you this weekend for free comics!  Again, we will close three hours early on Halloween (at 6pm instead of 9pm) as the town starts closing off street traffic shortly after this time.

Folks, we have a spectacular sale going on right now in our event room. Prices have been slashed to the bone on the items in this sale, so we don’t expect to have them for very long. What’s the sale? It’s like this:

ALL PAPERBACKS: $5!
HARDCOVERS: $10!

Bam! That’s it. Every book in our back room is either five or ten bucks, whether its cover price is $15, $25, or $50.

Questions you may have:

What’s in the sale?
You’ve got to come in to see. There’s stuff from our previous 30-40-50 sale, there are slightly damaged books, there’s great stuff we’re overstocked on, and I have boxes to go through in the back which will almost certainly yield more books for the sale, so things will be added to the sale as there is time. I can say that there is a wide variety. Superheroes, horror, indie stuff, manga, and more… it’s a great selection.

How long will the sale last?
I have absolutely no idea. If the stuff is selling and we don’t have another event that we need the space for, the books will remain on sale, unless we sell it all.

Can I put this sale book on hold?
Nope. Sorry.

Umbrella Academy is my favorite superhero comic of the 2000’s.  I still love Darwyn Cooke’s Few Frontier as well, but with this new book, the strangeness has been increased to the epic proportions needed to completely win my heart.   Weird, hilarious, beautiful. Everyone who works here loves it, so if you haven’t tried it out, come in and ask us about it! It’s great.

This is just a reminder that Katharine Whalen (Squirrel Nut Zippers, Lucky, Jazz Squad) will be appearing at Chapel Hill Comics tonight, Friday, October 2, from 6pm until 8pm!

We will have prints of Katharine’s artwork available (she has produced artwork for show fliers for Squirrel Nut Zippers and Lucky), and they’re very affordable: just ten dollars per print! There aren’t a ton of these available, so between that and the affordability, we’re not expecting them to last forever. Come out tonight, pick up a print or two, and get Katharine to sign them for you!

Make sure you stick around until at least 7pm, though, because that’s when Katharine will This perform a short set of Parlor Folk songs based on the Book of Knowledge, a children’s encyclopedia set published in 1923.
