MAY 6, 2011: UPDATED WITH MORE COOL STUFF!

SOME STAR WARS DUDES ARE GONNA BE AROUND AT SOME POINT IN THE DAY! A few representatives from the Mandalorian Mercs will be chillin’. They’re planning on being here when we star, and will stick around for… actually we’re not sure how long, so the earlier you get here, the better! They’ll be the ones in custom Boba Fett-style armor!

MAY 2, 2011: UPDATED WITH MORE COOL STUFF!

The list of comics we’ll have on hand for free is at the bottom of the page, after the new announcements!

BREAKING NEWS: FREE SKETCHES!

From 11am until 4pm, Thomas Boatwright will be on hand to do Free Sketches! Thomas is the artist of Zeke Deadwood, Zombie Lawman, Cemetery Blues, and the first volume of Edgar Allan Poo!

We’ve hosted him at the store a couple of times, and he’s a great guy. If you come by on FCBD from 11am until 4pm, he’ll do a great sketch for you! Want to see some of his art? Check out his Deviant Art Gallery!

BREAKING NEWS: NOT FREE BUT CHEAP: SILVER AGE AND BRONZE AGE COMICS!

If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter, you may know that we bought in a bunch of comics from the sixties and seventies last weekend.

We’ll have them processed and available for sale this Saturday!  They’ll be priced at $3 and up.  All of them will be priced well below guide prices, most of them will be $5 or less, though there will be some pricier ones as well!

We’ve got a couple hundred of these guys, and we posted pictures of 15 of them on the Chapel Hill Comics Facebook Page! Here’s an example! You can click through to see a bunch of them, though to see them all, you’ll have to get here early on Free Comic Book Day!

We like to offer a wide range of free comics that our customers will enjoy, so we’ll also be giving away the following comics which are not officially produced for Free Comic Book Day 2011!

FCBD 2010 MOUSE GUARD FRAGGLE ROCK FLIP BOOK – This is the title we gave away the most copies of last year, and Archaia, the publisher was nice enough to send more this year! There’s a PDF preview at the link.

DAN QUAYL – This super-indie Free Comic Book is co-published by Teenage Dinosaur, Gazeta Comics, Revival House Press and Sparkplug Comic Books and is called Dan Quayl. It is dedicated to the spirit of Portland’s own John Callahan. This book contains work by some of Portland’s best artists: Amy Kuttab, Jason Overby, Jesse McManus, and Blaise Larmee. It is all one long interconnected comic full of beautiful art. DEFINITELY NOT FOR KIDS, but click the title for a preview. You’re not gonna find a lot of stores with this comic on hand for Free Comic Book Day!

We’ll also have lots of other first issues of series to give away, like Grant Morrison’s BATMAN & ROBIN #1 and NEW X-MEN #1, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #1 (both versions – the first issue of the series that came out during the TV show and the first issue of Buffy Season 8), and many more!

We’ll have different quantities of all these comics on hand, so we will definitely run out of some of them. We do not put a limit on what you may take EXCEPT that we limit each title to one per person, and we’ll require parental permission on some titles for kids. If your kids want to read all the kids’ comics, you can grab one each of all the kids’ comics we have left when you’re here!

We’ll be open from 11am until 7pm, so come on down for free stuff! It’ll be fun!

Thanks,
Andrew Neal
