BRYAN LEE O’MALLEY AND HOPE LARSON TO SIGN AT CHAPEL HILL COMICS
CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA (November 14, 2007) - Scott Pilgrim has already conquered the world and gotten it together. On Saturday, December 1, he’s going to take on his greatest challenge…Chapel Hill.
At a special signing, Chapel Hill Comics will host a special signing featuring two award-winning graphic novelists, Scott Pilgrim Bryan Lee O’Malley and his equally-talented wife, Salamander Dreams and Grey Horses creator Hope Larson.
The couple has won near-universal acclaim and countless awards for their work in the comics industry. O’Malley’s Oni Press series Scott Pilgrim, an over-the-top romantic comedy about a videogame-addicted slacker battling seven evil ex-boyfriends in a quest to win the heart of his dream girl, was picked as “Independent Comic of the Year” by Entertainment Weekly in 2006, and was called “a hilarious, idiosyncratic gem” by the Washington Post. The book is currently in development as a feature film by Shaun of the Dead writer/director Edgar Wright.
Asheville native Larson, whose work was discovered by Understanding Comics author Scott McCloud, is considered one of the industry’s most promising female creators for her online and print graphic novels. She received the 2007 Eisner Award for “Special Recognition,” given to rising creators deserving of wider exposure. In 2006, she signed a two-book contract with Simon & Schuster to create graphic novels for young adults, with her first book, Chiggers, due to be published in 2008.
“I’m very excited about the signing,” said Chapel Hill Comics owner Andrew Neal. “Not only are these two of my favorite creators, but their work is incredibly popular with our customers — the latest Scott Pilgrim volume was our highest-ordered graphic novel of the month! This is an amazing opportunity for Bryan and Hope’s fans to meet them face-to-face, and for new fans to discover the incredible worlds they’ve created.”
Chapel Hill Comics will have copies of O’Malley’s and Larson’s books available for sale before and during the signing.
